Our typical day starts with a hearty
breakfast after which the boats are loaded and it’s a short ride off
to the flats. Acklins
has hundreds of square miles of pristine flats and creek channels,
which means you may easily go an entire trip without seeing another
boat. Certainly, you
will never feel crowded!
Depending on the conditions and your
preferences, the fishing can be done from the boat while you are
poled along or while wading the hard sand bottomed flats that
surround Acklins. Over
the course of a day, it’s not unusual to cast to cruising fish,
large schools, and tailing singles. The habitat varies enough
that you will see a bit of everything. The bonefish average 3 to 5
lbs with many larger fish to be found. It is not uncommon to have
multiple shots at fish in the 7 to 10lb range. Remember though, these
larger fish didn’t get that way by being easy to
fool!
Lunch is usually brought on board and
either eaten on the boat or on a deserted caye. We find that by lunch time
our guests are ready for a break from both the physical activities
of the morning but also from concentrating on seeing the fish that
Fedel has spotted and making the perfect presentation. A cool drink and some food
will get you ready for the afternoon!
Depending on your mood, in the afternoon
you may ask Fedel to continue exploring new flats and areas with
you, looking for more or larger bonefish. Alternatively, you may want
to change things up and have Fedel take you near the reef or along
the deeper channels fishing for barracuda, jacks and snapper. Snorkeling the still
pristine patch coral is another option. It’s also entirely possible
to combine these activities.
Whatever you wish, we’re here to help you experience the best
of what Acklins island has to
offer!
We
typically return by 6:00pm which gives you a chance to freshen up
and have a cocktail before dinner. Dinners are served
informally and may include fresh local seafood such as
grouper, snapper, conch or lobster. (With advanced notice we can
addres any special dietary
requirements).
We do
provide some of the best fishing and hospitality to be found on the
islands! Come visit us and experience it yourself!
